Kershaw Knives was founded in 1974 by Pete Kershaw, a salesman for Gerber Legendary Blades to manufacture his own knife designs in Lake Oswego. Kershaw was so confident in the quality of his knives and his designs he immediately offered a no-hassle, lifetime gaurantee and every knife.
The original knives were manufactured in Japan, until 1977 when Kershaw became a subsidary of the Japanese marketing company KAI Group. At that time primary manufacturing was moved to a facility Wilsonville Oregon. And yes, we at KnivesCutlery.com also find it interesting that as an American company the manufacturing was done in Japan, but as a wholly owned subsidiary of a Japanese company manufacturing was moved to the United States. But we, digress. As the company grew the manfacturing was moved to a larger facility in Tualatin, where it remains. Although some products are still made in Japan and China.
Kershaw Knives is only one brand manufacturedby what is now known as KAI USA ltd, Others include Shun Cutlery and ZT Combat Knives.
